Shreemad Bhagwad Gita literally translates to as ‘The Song of God’ and is found through chapters 23-40 of the Bhishma Parva section of Mahabharata. It is the conversation between Lord Shree Krishna and the great warrior Arjuna. Its purpose is to deliver mankind from the lack of knowledge of the material existence.

According to the Bhagwad Gita, three paths; namely, yoga of perfect actions, the yoga of perfect devotion and the yoga of perfect knowledge aid one in establishing a relationship with God. These three paths have been fully explained within.

The Bhagavad-Gita consists of Eighteen (18) chapters with each one being identified as ‘Yog’. Yog is the science of the individual consciousness attaining harmony with the Ultimate Consciousness i.e. God. Hence each is a highly specialised spiritual science revealing the path of attaining realisation of the Ultimate Truth (God). 

 

The first Six (6) chapters have been classified as Karma Yoga section as it entails the aforementioned spiritual science through actions.

1: Vishada Yoga

2: Sankhya Yoga

3: Karma Yoga

4: Gnana Yoga

5: Karma Vairagya Yoga

6: Abhyasa Yoga

 

The middle Six (6) chapters have been classified as Bhakti Yoga section as it entails the aforementioned spiritual science by the path of devotion.

7: Paramahamsa Vignana Yoga

8: Akshara Parabrahman Yoga

9: Raja Vidya Guhya Yoga

10: Vibhuti Vistara Yoga

11: Visvarupa Darsana Yoga

12: Bhakti Yoga

 

The final Six (6) chapters are regarded as the Gnana Yoga section as it entails the aforementioned spiritual science through the intellect.

14: Gunatraya Vibhaga Yoga

15: Purusottama Yoga

16: Daivasura Sampad Vibhaga Yoga

17: Sraddhatraya Vibhaga Yoga

18: Moksa Upadesa Yoga
