Shlok 148

In conclusion to various Vratas (disciplines) such as Ekadashi, one hundred thousand Pradikshana (circum-abulation), Dandvata (prostration), Mantra Japa or Purascharan (silent reading), one should perform Udhyapan.  In Udhyapan one may donate cows, gold etc.  They may feed Brahmins or perform Mahapooja of their Ishtadeva.

They should perform Udhyapan according to their ability as outlined in Shastras.  Those who do not perform this do not receive the complete fruits of their labour.  Nandi Purana explains, ‘One should perform Udhyapan at the beginning, middle or end of a Vrata.  Without such Udhyapan, they do not receive the fruits from their Vrata.  If Udhyapan is not specified for a paticular Vrata then Mahapooja, Brahmin Bhojan or donation of cows or wealth to God should be performed to mark the end of their Vrata.’
