When Shriji Maharaj was in meeting there would always be beads in his hands of somebody and dozes in a meeting, Maharaj would hurl a bead at him. Once Brahmanand Swami suddenly had a doze in the meeting. Maharaj hurled a bead at his head. Swami awoke. Suddenly asked, “Maharaj why did you hurl a bead at me ? I was not dozing”. “If not dozing, what were you doing ?” asked Maharaj. “I was meditating upon your form and composing a poem,” replied Brahmanmuni.
Shriji Maharaj smiled and said, “Then recite your poem to me”. Brahmamuni was, of course an instant poet, and at present he was inspired by Shriji Maharaj. Then what else remains ? He, with a long tune, started, O' my dearest of the dear! I was fascinated by the colourful end of the turban that you are wearing. It has so fascinated me that I at once fell in trance”. On hearing this whole gathering was pleased. They began to receive the poet's words by dancing.
Maharaj's joy knew no bounds. So many such devotional songs swami has written. Over and above poem setting, swami had many other abilities too. He was an artist. He was expert in planning out the construction of temples. He was such an able orator that he defeated many persons within a wink of an eye. He knew the science of training, taming and managing horses. Once when a British officer's horse at Ahmedabad could not cured by anyone, it was he who cured the horse. He was chiefly responsible to acquire on deeds of transfer government land to build temple at Ahmedabad. Maharaj personally entrusted the work of building of temples at Vadtal, Junagadh and Muli to Swami. Swami had only twelve rupees. If a temple of one doom is to be built, it would cost less. but Brahmanmuni decided to build temples with three dooms according to Maharaj's significance. He laid a foundation of three doomed temple. He wrote to Maharaj, “why should there be a shortage of money when the master of the temple stays in the city, and whose Hundi is encashable in all the nine continents ?” Swami worked on the mell of lime stone and composed many poems.Vadtals' temple having been completed, he took his belonging bag and moved on Maharaj's odrer for sending him to Junagadh for building a temple there.
The Nawab ruled over Junagadh. One of the courtiers of the Nawab obstructed the work of Swami, but the Nawab was highly pleased at the personality of Swami. He gave away him the required land. Not only that but the Nawab also presented Swami in the court a casket, full of gold coins. Swami politely refused it. He immediately composed a song which he sang in the court. In this poem the poet has shown who can be called a true saint - FAKIR. The poet says that one who is pleased with Ram (God) and one who keeps himself away from Dan (wealth) and Vam (woman), one who remains carelessly free and lost in spiritual joy and proud, one who has the only shelter of GURU and the GURU is whose only hope, one who is pleased on seeing the GURU, and becomes sad on seeing
others, one who follows his Guru's command, is a true saint, a fakir, a `DAR VESH. Brahmanand Swami had one more name of Shri Rang das. He has used this name in this poem on hearing the poem, the Nawab was so much pleased that he cried out, “Wonderful. Wonderful! This is a true `fakir'. I have seen for the first time the man who does not wish for wealth and woman.” A huge temple with a doom was constructed at Junagadh.
There was a great scholar named Munibawa in Surat. Brahmanand Swami persuaded Munibawa to follow Shriji Maharaj. In the same way Brahmanand Swami inspired a Parsi gentleman name Ardeshar Kotwal to follow Maharaj. This was an extraordinary work that an ordinary man can not do. So Shriji Maharaj called Swami GAJENDRA- the king of elephants. When an elephant is fallen into mud, only such GAJENDRA as Brahmanand Swami would be needed to pull him out. That means only such GAJENDRA as Brahmanand would be able to draw Munibawa towards Satsang.
Brahmanand Swami was, of course, a disciple of Shriji Maharaj, but he used to make Maharaj laugh by his humorous and witty talks and devotional songs. There was such a deep friendship between them that he used place morsels of sweets into Maharaj's mouth. He has composed numerous songs on Maharaj's Leela. Maharaj once said to him, “Who has told you to sing such songs?”
“Who would tell me?” None. I sang what I saw. Mean this is not my fabrication, I write what I feel and see,” came the reply from Swami.
Brahmanand Swami was gloomy and became sad, when Shriji Maharaj passed away. Tears rolled on Swami's cheeks and he said, “O my dear chum! I will keep you here with force. I won't allow you to go.”
Maharaj thought:- “As Hanuman was to Ram, so is Brahmanad to me. He is a YATI. He won't allow me to go.” So Maharaj made a trick . Maharaj commanded him to go to Junagadh for the construction of temple, and said, “When you have completed the work of construction at Junagadh, go to Muli. You will have to complete the work of construction of temple at Muli”
Swami did not want to leave Maharaj but it was Maharaj's command. He was ready to go. Maharaj was pleased and repeatedly embraced Swami. This went on for three days. On the fourth day swami started for Junagadh. After some time, swami received the news of passing away of Maharaj. Swami came to Ghadhad, but Maharaj's mortal remain had already been consigned to fire Swami said, “Had Maharaj been not consigned to fire, I could have called him to return to his body”. Swami went to the temple of Gopinathji at Ghadhad, and he began to sing songs of insufferable agony with unchecked tears in his eyes. Maharaj appeared there. He embraced Swami, consoled him and said, “Don't feel sad, Swami, I am solely within you!
Maharaj's last wish was to build a temple in Muli. Swami took upon himself to work. There was a great scarcity of stone and water. That was also removed by Maharaj. He visited there and gave the location of the underground storage of water and stone. The temple construction was thus nicely completed. Swami's life also came to an end at Muli. While on death bed, on Vikram Era 1888, the tenth day of the lunar half of the month of Jesth, he sang, “O my dear master, take me away to you”.
Swami's memorial still exists in Muli. It is called BRAHMA MAHOL. Scholars call him by the name of Brahmabol. His poems are the poems of Brahmabol. He is considered as one of the greatest poets in Gujarat.
